Carbon Pricing: A Popular Education Toolkit for Community Resistance
Author: Tamra Gilbertson
Publishers: Climate Justice Alliance, Indigenous Environmental Network
The objective of this training initiative is to continuallyeducate ourselves on climate change discussions and policydebates. Because the great majority of climate policies continueto include false solutions, the key purpose of this toolkit is toanalyze and investigate market-based carbon pricing initiatives inall of their forms, including: cap and trade, carbon taxes, carbonfee and dividend, offsets, geoengineering technologies, REDD+,BECCS, forest offsets, cap and invest, payments for ecosystemservices and many others. At the center of these neoliberalmainstream policies is an effort by the wealthy elite – especiallythose involved in extractive industries and agroindustrialprocesses – to continue business as usual. In other words, tokeep the wheels of an extractive economy turning while buildinga green image that distracts the public from uprising andenacting effective, community-based, just solutions.
